Navigators and Networks is an exciting initiative that has been set up to address system barriers affecting individuals with multiple and complex needs here in St. John’s. The NAVNET initiative was formed in response to a study sponsored by Eastern Health and the Department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment. The study explored the experiences and systems’ barriers that individuals with complex needs often encounter in accessing support and services. The resulting report, Navigators and Networks: Harnessing resources & meeting the needs of individuals with complex needs was released in May 2008 and recommended, among other things, the establishment of a “network” of government representatives that will come together to explore innovative solutions to these barriers.
